If you intend to make money from your website by using article marketing, therefore, your first objective is to get your article accepted by the directories. To achieve this, the article must be relevant to the subject, which is defined by the keywords you choose, or the title. You must persuade the article directories to publish your article. Some directories use the title, and some use keywords.

You must devise a title to persuade visitors to choose your article, or keywords relevant to the content. You must also compose a summary or description of your article that will persuade someone interested in your niche to click on your article rather than that of someone else.

Thats just the start. You must then write the article in such a way that it retains the interest of the reader. It is much easier to click away from your article that read through it, so it must provide an answer to a question or a solution to a problem. The days are gone when a meaningless article would attract visitors to click on Adsense ads. If your readers believe that you can help then they will click on your link and visit your website. Article marketing is a cross between literature and advertising.

When you are article marketing, you are literally thinking of all the ways you can persuade as you are writing. You must persuade with the title, with the keywords, with the content, with your bio, and of course you must persuade with whichever offer you are using to compel readers to click into your web site.

Every website, whether content-based or e-commerce-based, needs a constant stream of traffic to sustain its web presence. Internet marketing refers to the process of making that happen. This can be in the form of Internet marketing ads, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), article submission, Web 2.0 strategies, publishing ezines, etc. Here is a small peek into some of the most effective methods of Internet marketing:

1. Search Engine Marketing: There are two types of search engine marketing techniques - Internet marketing ads (or pay-per-click (PPC) ads) and SEO. PPC ads, or Internet marketing ads on search engines, are ads that appear in columns and rows (marked as "Sponsored Links") when a search engine results page throws up the search results. Advertisers have to pay for these Internet marketing ads on a per-click basis, which is why they are popularly known as pay-per-click ads. The result is that when a surfer is searching for a keyword, he is directed to the website, and so it becomes the goal of every website owner to keyword-optimize his content in such a way that his site appears on the first search engine results page. This is a relatively inexpensive technique and very effective too.

2. Article Submission Marketing: There are a host of reprint directories on the Internet that accept articles, which are then "borrowed" by other web publishers and published on their website. A small resource box is placed at the end of each article that has to be published. This box gives the credit due to the writer and mentions his site address. Apart from the regular Internet marketing ads, this is another great way to publicize your website. All a website owner needs to do is create effective content and write a snazzy resource box at the end and submit the article to reprint directories, and hey presto, the article will send traffic from all over the web. Similarly, a website owner can post messages on bulletin boards and leave his website's link in his signature.

3. Ezine Publishing: Many website owners publish ezines and give them away free to subscribers and in the process collect a database of subscribers. For an ezine to succeed as well as an Internet marketing ad, it must contain compelling content. Also, the whole story must not be included in the email that is sent to the subscriber - only a small teaser must appear, inviting the subscriber to click on the link to know more.

4. Web 2.0 Strategies: Blogs and RSS ("RDF Site Summary", popularly known as "Really Simple Syndication") feeds are the new Internet marketing kids on the block. Website owners set up blogs, where they post trivia and articles of general interest, inviting surfers to leave their comments and visit their website. They also offer RSS feeds where surfers can view streaming content by using special RSS-reading software. If they see anything of interest, they click on the link to read the whole story.

5. Banner exchange: There are banner exchanges marketing companies where website owners swap banner space with other websites, without any charge. However, this method of Internet marketing is fast losing its punch and is almost on the way out, because every website owner prefers to publish search engine Internet marketing ads that pay on per click basis.

Marketing with articles is an easy and profitable endeavor, if done correctly.

Follow these 6 tips to dramatically improve your article writing marketing skills:

1. Not everyone writes well enough to convince readers to act. You should have someone evaluate your articles and give you honest feedback on their reaction. If the feedback is negative and you feel you can't write better, you can pay a ghostwriter to write your articles for you at a few dollars a pop. However, the more you write, the better you'll get. So, keep working at it.

2. Take the time to test your author's resource box. Write a few different versions and see which seems to draw in more visitors to your the site you are pointing your reader to. Allow enough trials to make sure it is your resource box content that is working and not just the article itself. Test it until you have around 500 views for each version before you change anything.

3. If people aren't visiting your website like you want, something isn't working within your articles. Try changing your resource box. Compare yours to other authors' articles that write about similar topics. Can you change something to make it work better? Use others as a reference.

4. Many article directories do not allow software submitters. Manually submit to the best sites and hire a submission company to submit to the rest. Don't use the software intended for this unless you feel it is completely necessary. Quality always outweighs quantity.

5. Schedule a designated amount of time to write and submit articles into your work schedule. It can be daily, every few days, weekly, etc. If you want a lot of links in a short period of time, try submitting an article every day for an entire month. After that month, it doesn't matter whether you submit one on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly schedule. The important thing is that you take action and actually do write and submit on a regular basis. Do Something!

6. Spelling and grammar are more important than you may realize. Never submit an article until you have checked it at least twice for spelling errors and grammatically incorrect sentences. Don't allow these two things to be your downfall. Spelling errors are an article reviewers pet peeve and they will make you correct them before they accept it.

Three Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start digging up those creative writing skills.With modern communication technology comes the popularity of information-based marketing, which is one of the oldest and most effective techniques in getting targeted prospects to sites and converting them into buyers. Article marketing is an ideal way to improve your website traffic without expending too much energy. All you need do is to write a few decent articles, and your traffic will increase significantly.

The writing must be relevant to the topic or niche of your website, or at least the page that you intend to direct traffic towards. That is one tremendous advantage that article marketing has over most other traffic building programs: you can direct the traffic to whatever page on your site you wish.

This is done by means of your authors resource box, that is an area set aside by most article directories for a few words about yourself and a link or two back to your website. That link need not be only to your home page, but can be to any page on your site that you choose. The page you choose, however, must be relevant to the article you have written. You dont send a reader to a page on octopi if you have just written an article about giant squid or turtles.

One mistake that many authors make is to fail to understand what is allowed in the resource box, sometimes called a bio. Some allow HTML and others dont. Some allow links and others dont. If you are not allowed a link to your site then there is little point in providing a directory with a free article. Dont use these sites, and there are several of those that I have come across. Some directories do not provide a resource box, but allow you to add a few words with your url at the end of the article.

It doesnt matter, as long as you are allowed to provide a link back to your website. You then get a one way link to your site, but even better in many cases, you also get traffic from people that like your writing and click on your link to visit your website for more information. Depending on the topic of your article, and how you submit it, that can be a massive short-term jump, or a steady stream over a longer period. The ideal is a combination of each, but that depends on your submission strategy and how many versions of your article you submit.

The versions matter, because if you can produce a few versions and submit different versions to different groups of directories, then you will get better results. That is because after a while, the search engines will begin to detect that a number of article directories, and other websites, have the same content (your article). They will then begin to drop some of these from their listings as being less relevant, and this will continue theoretically until there is only one directory or site with your article on it.

So make the best of it and submit it to as many article directories as possible for a quick burst of traffic, then write others to keep it going. Rather than write four versions of your article for four sets of different search engines, you are better writing four articles, each to be sent to all the search engines. That works better because I have tested it.

Article marketing can be used to increase your website traffic, but you can maximise that increase if you use the directories and your articles intelligently.
