If you want your company to succeed, at some point you will need to begin marketing your products or services. The old adage that the worst type of advertising is no advertising is still true. No matter what your marketing budget may be, there are many different types of marketing that you can take advantage of. Let's take a look at a few of the more proven techniques that combine low cost with major results.

Online Marketing

Online marketing has opened up incredible avenues for small businesses. Thanks to companies like Google and Overture, you can place ads for your company right along side the big guns at competitive prices. Never before has it been easier to market your business than it is right now.

New forms of online marketing are also making headway. Online video ads are easy and cheap to shoot and give you the kind of exposure that was previously limited to expensive national television campaigns. With low production costs and reasonable pricing, you can run an online video campaign at a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising.

Offline Marketing

The benefits of traditional marketing cannot be overlooked in our digital age. Many companies are reaping the benefits of combining online and offline marketing techniques. For example, you can use direct mail or local advertising to drive potential customers to your site. This is a great and proven combination that results in increased traffic and better conversions.

You can actually save money on print campaigns by relying on your website to do the actual selling while the print ad can function as a pointer. You'll save money using less words while building brand awareness. Radio ads are still a proven way to increase awareness of your company. If you are new to radio marketing, try placing a sample ad with a local station. They'll be able to assist you in producing your first ad until you get the hang of the process.

Word of Mouth Marketing

Word of mouth is still one of the most powerful forms of advertising on the planet. The best word of mouth comes from satisfied customers. Go the extra mile for them, and really work towards building relationships with your customers. This will result not only in more leads but they'll keep coming back to you in the future. Try running special promotions or coupons for these regular customers to help them feel that they are special and you'll really be able to continue to build on these relationships in the future.

The best marketing strategies take advantage of all the different types of advertising. By spreading your ad dollars around you can be assured of greater success and better interaction with the public. Start small by combining a special promotion that will run both in print and online avenues at the same time. You can keep track of the success of each method by using coupon codes to see which form suits your company the best.

Article marketing might seem hard when you first think about it, but once you have written and submitted a number of articles, it does get easier. Follow these simple steps to help you get started, quickly and easily.

1) Narrow down your web site topics and perhaps make a list of them. When you are trying to write articles, sometimes it is easy to feel like you do not have anything to write about. One easy way to counteract that is to write a list of 10-20 things that you can write about main topics. Then, write a list of questions that can be asked about your topic. Once you have those lists, you now have a large number of mini-topics you can use to write articles about. Just answer each one of the topics in an article you should never run out of fresh ideas using this method!

2) Write the article. Use a structure similar to this one for your first few articles. Just write out a few main points that can answer the article questions. Then for your introductory paragraph, write an introductory sentence and then summarize the main points. For your conclusion, the same idea holds just summarize everything, and perhaps give an action point something your reader can do that will be helpful to him.

3) Add your link to your web page to the end of the article. Offer an incentive, such as a free ebook, to get them to visit your web site.

4) Go to a search engine and find a list of article directories that are accepting submissions.

5) Submit your articles to the article directories.

Although that list is quite brief and short, if you literally do each of the things in those steps, you are well on the road to article marketing.

Just what are the Benefits of Submitting Articles to E-Zines

E-zine advertising is perhaps one of the most underused forms of promotion. It is a good idea to do your homework, before launching your viral marketing campaign. Article writing and publishing has become the latest buzz in the internet website marketing world. The name of the game as far as Internet marketing

Do you know that by writing a few articles and submit them to articles directories can be one of the best things you could do for your website? This is commonly known as "article marketing" and is one the proven methods to build website traffic for free. Article marketing allows you to provide content for other websites, let search engines send traffic to you, build backlinks for your new websites and give readers the information they seek. It's a win-win situation!

If you want search engines to get your website listed high up, the "relevance" of your page to a particular search and the number of quality links coming to your page from other sites are particularly important. This is how article marketing will fit in.

By posting articles that is optimized for relevance to well-established directories can "convince" search engines to include your website in the search results for particular keywords. In your articles that you have posted, you are allowed to insert a short bio, also commonly known as author resource box, and a link back to your website. If readers find your articles informative, they would mostly likely to know what more you can offer them and click on the link to check out your website.

Besides that, good articles directories usually have high traffic and relatively high PageRank. Not only you can get direct traffic from articles through your bio's link, you can piggy-back on the high PageRank to build quality backlinks pointing towards your website. You can get indexed faster and higher by search engines due to the quality backlinks you have gathered. This will in turn lead to higher traffic in the long run. You are killing two birds with one stone and this method is totally free of charge!

Article marketing is definitely one of the time-tested methods that can work and build website traffic for free. Here are some of the top article directories that you can submit to and get free traffic and backlinks to your website:

The reason for and purpose of Search Engine Optimization is to dramatically increase visitation of potential customers to your website by achieving first page and ultimately a top three page rank in searches using keywords and keyword phrases that define your business and products.

Search Engine Optimization Methodology

There are several approaches to developing a strategy for improving a website for search engine placement. The most common is finding the top site for your keywords and "just doing it better than that site" using a follow the leader methodology. While this approach will give you some insight into the level of SEO the competition has employed it wont necessarily help you get ranked in a higher position without a deep understanding of all the criteria that drive that top position listing. A thorough review of the content below should help you get that understanding and you will see that while examining the top ranked competition may be instructive it wont reduce the hard work you need to do to be a web contender.

We have worked with several of the greatest marketing minds in the world and without exception not one would give a thought to the competition when defining a marketing strategy for the business. In fact if you are focused on the competition and not on differentiating your business and website from the crowd you will never achieve a higher ranking (your content will be seen as redundant and of low value to the search engines) and there is no guarantee that the competition is using the correct keywords for your business in the first place.

Your best plan of action for any SEO effort is to optimize, dramatically expand your content, and focus relevant content on specific keyword phrases that are based on your customers needs. It is this deep dive content with specific customer centric keyword phrase focus that search engines love and your success or failure has nothing to do with what your competition is doing. If you don't know what keywords are relevant to your business or even if you think you do know talk to your customers. Take their language and their challenges as the basis for your keyword research. Then use a comprehensive free tool like Google keyword generator. You will have more truly relevant keywords than you know what to do with. Use them all and start generating content around them.

In search engine optimization there are a handful of things to check first. Then more advanced tactics to implement and finally a host of things to avoid. Here we have provided a comprehensive overview of all the tactics that make up an aggressive SEO strategy for you to use and learn.

#1 Linkability

Can search spiders find and see your content. Dynamic database driven content is a killer for SEO. You want to make sure your text and links are presented to browsers in a static form that can be read by search spiders. Dynamic menu navigation using javascript or DHTML can also be a problem. The way to correct this linking problem is to employ a site map. Link to the site map from a text link on your home page. Search spiders will follow the link to the site map and find all your pages from there.

#2 Page Titles

Each page of your website should focus on the keyword phrases that are search engine relevant to the page content. It is the primary keyword phrase that should be the title for the page. For instance this page is about Search Engine Optimization so the title of this page is Search Engine Optimization. Its that simple. Each page should have unique keyword focused content and the title tag should reflect that primary individual keyword phrase for that page.

#3 Keyword

Content While search engines don't measure keyword density as a criteria for page rank its generally agreed your relative keyword density should be about 3-5% of total page content. You can measure keyword density by dividing the number of keywords by the total word count expressed as a percentage. The more content you have the better. We recommend 500 to 1000 words of relevant content. Ever wonder why Wikipedia is #1 for many searches. Shear volume of targeted content. You may argue that this page about search engine optimization could be broken down into separate pages for better readability. Perhaps but not better for the SEO strategy we are engaged in. This volume of single focus single page content is what I'm talking about. Did I mention that this page is about search engine optimization and search engine optimization strategy? I think you get my point.

#4 Keyword

Headings Your pages should be well segmented and defined by related keyword headings. Headings are expressed in HTML as H1 H2 H3. Search engines love content that is well defined by category and keyword focused on the section content. Note that on this page that the subject Search Engine Optimization is an H1 header while the sub chapters of the page are H2 headers.

#5 META Description Tag

This META tag is of the most importance. It will be used by most search engines as the descriptive text under your search listing. There are instances where these descriptions may be pulled from other directories such as DMOZ however this is less common as the quality of these directories erodes over time and you can actually use META tags to tell the search engines not to use DMOZ (My recommendation). So using a description META tag is very important.

Most websites fail at one or more of these most basic criteria for SEO readiness and fixing them can lead to dramatic improvements to your search engine ranking.

#6 Site Submission

There is so much garbage on the web regarding this almost useless tactic. The top search engines will find you whether or not you submit your site. The search spiders for Google are always looking for new and unique content to add to their index. Provided you have properly implemented all the basics above your pages will be spidered and indexed in a matter of weeks. If you want to be proactive then you can register for a Google AdWords account and access Google webmaster tools. This will allow you to submit an XML site map with all your pages to the index. Updating your XML site map to notify the index of changes to pages is also easy to do using these tools.

#7 Inter Linking

Inter linking is the practice of using keyword targeted phrases within the content as anchor text for links to your other pages. For instance in this discussion of search engine optimization I might describe SEO as subset of search engine marketing and use that phrase as the link to the relevant page. You should create content with one to five interlinks provided you have the pages to support that. You do not want to use several different phrases as links to one single destination page. The idea is to focus each individual page on the primary keyword phrase related to the anchor text.

#8 Back Linking

This refers to one way links to your site from other content relevant sites. Notice I did not say reciprocal links. Link exchanges can work if you are careful not to allow garbage sites into your directory. You must also have actual content on your website meaning that your site can't be just a link farm. These link farm sites are all but dead now. Having one is of no SEO value and linking back to one is likely to damage your SEO effort. Other strategies for acquiring relevant back links range from using online PR to making forum posts and blog entries with links back to keyword relevant pages using those keyword phrases as the anchor text for the link in your posting. Back linking is believed to be one of the most critical factors considered for page rank in the latest search algorithms. If no-one is linking to you from outside your domain you will have a very difficult time getting a first page ranking.

Things to Avoid - they will get you penalized and/or banned from the major search engines.

Overuse and repetition, repetition, repetition of keywords
Focus on keywords unrelated to the content
Colored text that matches the background
Duplicate content on different pages
Use of Cloaking tactics and Fast Redirect scripts
Too many reciprocal links or bad neighborhood links
The use of multiple gateway pages that all link to the same content page.

Some terms you may encounter are Keyword Stuffing, Google Bombing, Link Farming - all of these tactics are bad news and you should stay clear or risk having your domain banned from the major search engines.

First we must define what article marketing is. It is simply writing articles to gain maximum exposure to your website. These articles are submitted to a number of online promotion services or article directories to encourage web traffic. It is an extremely useful method in creating that much needed traffic to your website, which can then be converted into online success. But it is often felt that it is difficult to achieve, but its not.

Article marketing is not as difficult as is so many times felt. The most difficult thing is getting started with it. But the more you write, the easier it becomes.

The first and most important thing in article marketing is having a title that compels the reader to go to the content. As long as you can decide on a compelling title, the first paragraph must continue to hold the interest of its readers, offering informative content that is concise and appealing. This trend must continue throughout the entire article so that interest level does not drop. One of the things that must be remembered when doing article marketing is that the traffic that is generated to your website comes there because they like what they've read and are there for more.

So you've created a mental image in the minds of your readers in terms of your business strategies, willingness to give those strategies to anyone wanting it and your business ethics. For me, getting my feet into the door is one of the most difficult things, but it can now be made simple through this highly advantageous tool. Now your readers know about you, and you just have to continue maintaining these relationships and building new ones, using the same tool over and over.

The results of this is cumulative, in that, the more you do it as I pointed out before, the better you get at it. Just keep at it, writing as many articles as you can, submit them to as many directories as you can, which is simply getting your business advertised via a wide range of sites. You can even come up with a topic, search Ezines for similar topics, read them and rewrite them, giving them a fresh new look with your own personal business niche.

Remember article marketing is one of the most effective tools for driving traffic to your website, and all it takes the stroke of some keys, and some persistence. Its not that difficult after all; wouldn't you agree?

Writers block is a really big problem and I am going to give you some tips to be sure that you always have something to write. When you write articles for a living, you can't afford to stay one hour or more in front of your computer without actually typing your money making words.

Let's see what are the exact steps you can follow to get rid of this problem...

Get out of the grey zone.

If when you come in front of your laptop and don't know what to write, it may be an alert. I mean that your mind could be in the "grey zone".

Get out of the grey zone as soon as you can. Many writers don't realize that their mind need to have some rest, like their body.

Can you imagine running for 4 hours non stop? Nobody will do this, but writers are doing it. They can sit down and write as much as twenty articles in less than 24 hours.

Some of them are doing this several weeks in a raw.

This is bad for your mind.

Another problem is that writers think that if they have some rest or sleep an hour or two, they will get themselves out of the "grey zone". This is not true.

You don't need to relax your mind only to be able to write quality articles. You also need to take care of your body. If you don't practice any physical activity, your mind will suffer. Please understand that your mind and your body are one.

You absolutely need to do something. For example, you could run twenty minutes every morning or do some push ups. I don't care, but do something.

If you follow my tip above, writers block will become a remembrance of the past.

It is not difficult to make money from bum marketing once you know what it is. It is a new term that is said to have originated from somebody claiming that even a penniless bum could make money using it. I wish that were true, because I would immediately go on the road for a while and then try to use bum marketing to make money. However, it is just somebody trying to be different and use a new name for an old technique.

In fact, it is another name for article marketing. What the theory states is that even a bum must know something about something; at least enough to start up a website. Fill the site with content on your niche, based on a few good keywords, and then write a few articles to drive traffic to the site. In fact, all of that is quite possible, and is the way that many people have made their fortunes in internet marketing.

The key is getting a good niche, and getting good keywords around which to build your web pages. There is plenty software around to allow you to do that, and once you have a few pages on your website with reasonable content, you can start marketing it and then monetize it. You might think that is the wrong way round, and it should be monetized first, but that would be a mistake. First, start advertising your website for the content it contains. You can put products on the site later.

You will ultimately do better that way than if you jump right in with a website full of products. Provide good and useful content, and add the products later. Now comes the bum part. The crux of bum marketing is writing articles. If you write two or three articles every week on the subject of your website then you will get traffic, and you will get valuable links back to your web pages from highly ranked pages. The traffic and the links are important.

After a week or so check your listing in Google. If you are listed at all, it doesn't matter where, than start to add products to your website. Keep writing articles, but lead your readers to the content pages on your website rather to the product pages. Your visitors will get to the products themselves when they are ready to purchase, so don't force them. You can lead them to any page you want by using links in your Author's Resource box that most article directories allow. Those that don't provide an actual box allow you to add the links at the end of the article.

The links you provide should direct the reader to a page on your website that provides more information on the subject of the article they have just been reading. That means 'more information. And not the same information. You have to expand on what information your article provided, and then provide link on your web page to a product or sales page.

That is the theory. For most, however, it does not work like that. They are unfamiliar with the technique needed to write a good article, and to make people want to click through to their website. Article writing is actually a skill, and it is little wonder that so many are being refused by the directories. Many lack even basic grammar, let alone an obvious lack of knowledge about how spell checkers work. So here are some tips on how to make bum marketing work for you.

First, get a good niche. Make it something you really know something about. Most people know about something, and you will be surprised at the type of niches from which people make money. Arts and crafts, knitting, quilting, oral hygiene, how to get a date, how to play football, losing weight, putting on weight, lighthouses, pirates and cheating at video games. Anything goes: people make money from anything and everything.

Secondly, get a good web host, not a cheapo. Get one that gives you autoresponders and email addresses, subdomains, and a checkout and payment system and traffic analysis. Pay about $25 monthly if you can afford it. Then design you site well, so that it will get listed by the search engines. Write each page based on one keyword phrase.

Then write articles. Spell check often, and use a grammar checker if you have one. Get somebody else to read it over - but somebody that is a good English speaker. Let them fix any mistakes in spelling and grammar then submit the article to as many directories as possible. Wait a day or two then put your products on your website.

The write another few articles, each one based on a different page of your website. Submit them to article directories and keep doing this. You should soon notice a difference in your traffic, and you should start to sell some products. You can the change your marketing strategies to suit the pages that most people are visiting on your website.

You can make money from bum marketing if you are able to write, but if you cannot, then the way how to overcome that is to have them ghost written or to have a friend check the article over for you.

Three Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start digging up those creative writing skills. With modern communication technology comes the popularity of information-based marketing, which is one of the oldest and most effective techniques in getting targeted prospects to sites and converting them into buyers. This is

Search engine results are becoming more important every day as more people use the World Wide Web to find goods, services and information. One way to help your website achieve a decent ranking is by ensuring your site is free of bad links.

What Google Says About Links

When your website is ready: - Have other relevant sites link to yours. - Submit your website link or URL to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific sites. - Make a website with a clear hierarchy and text links. Every web page should be reachable from at least one static text link. - Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100). - Check for broken links and correct HTML.

Broken Links Are Bad For Users And SEO

It is important to trade links with relevant websites. But the more sites you trade with the more difficult it becomes to detect a bad link.

Bad links happen when: - The company goes out of business or abandons its website - Domain name change - Website/ company merger - Page, pages or directory sections are deleted or no longer continued - Inexperienced Web editors or content managers make coding mistakes

Google will detect all bad links in your website. Google robots or crawlers are routinely gathering information from your website on a cyclic basis. You may experience a drop off or ranking change if your website contains bad links.

Think Of It This Way

Links are mini-direction maps. They tell the search engine robots where to find content within and outside of your website. Imagine someone giving you bad or inaccurate directions. Would you trust them? Would you come back or ask them again? Search engine robots work the same way.

Website Redesigns Can Affect Your Links

When you redesign your website it will most likely have a new link structure and new page names. For example, your home page may be given a new file name (index.asp) versus (index.html). And your interior pages might be given new naming conventions such as "suffolk-home-remodeling-team.html" versus "our-team.html."

Before the new website pages are launched, your webmaster should create redirects for all of your old or existing web pages so that clients or customers with bookmarks in their web browser "favorites" will be redirected to your new website or website interior pages. A redirect also tells the search engines where to find your new website interior pages. Webmaster should also include this information in your robots.txt file at the root directory of your website.

Link Checking

There are a few free and share-ware programs on the market that will perform a scan of your website link structure and detect and report any bad inbound or out-bound links. I prefer having someone do this for me on a daily basis. Most people simply do not have the time to do a link check every single day. I found a really inexpensive service that emails me reports when any bad links are detected. You can check them out at http://www.seventwentyfour.com/

There is also a popular software called Link Sleuth ™, a free multi-threaded link checking software that analyzes websites for broken links. It runs on Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and Windows XP. It requires some basic webmaster knowledge to run, but has pretty good documentation.

Solid Links = Solid Reputation

Whether you manually check your links, or use software or a link checking service, having a solid intact link structure reflects well on your website. It means you care about your visitors' online experience and your website presence.

Bad links may harm your website search engine ranking and leave your website visitors with a less than pleasurable experience.
